CHICAGO — Raegan Steiner, Billings Senior’s 6-foot outside hitter, was named the Montana Gatorade volleyball player of the year on Tuesday. Steiner is Senior’s eighth Gatorade player of the year.
The senior Steiner recorded 431 kills, 262 digs, 37 blocks and 31 aces in helping Senior to a 39-2 record. The Broncs, in coach Sue Dvorak’s first season with the program, entered the State AA volleyball tournament with an undefeated record but lost to Missoula Sentinel in the undefeated semifinal and championship.
Steiner is also a member of the Under Armour all-American first team.
“Steiner was the most consistent player on her team in all areas — attacking, blocking, serving, passing,” said Kalispell Glacier head coach Christy Harkins. “She contributed in all areas all season. And she did this for at least two consecutive seasons under different coaches. She was able to help get her team back to the state championship game with a different coach, different style of play and different personnel. That’s impressive leadership.”
Sentinel’s Elsa Godwin was the 2016-17 Gatorade player of the year. Steiner joins fellow Broncs Taylor Mims (2014-15), Jace Henderson (2013-14 and 2012-13), Emily Carroll (2008-09), Ashley Welborn (2007-08), Kelly Swedeen (2005-06) and Michele Solomon (1997-98) as award winners.
