BIGFORK – One town in western Montana has suffered only a single loss so far this basketball season. The Bigfork boys and girls both look like serious contenders in Class B. The usually tough Vals have reached another level.
The Bigfork ladies lost a close 68-63 game against defending Class A champion Columbia Falls right before Christmas break, but other than that, the Vals have blown past everyone else.
Bigfork came up just one game short of a state tournament trip a year ago, losing in a divisional challenge game. But the Vals brought back almost the entire roster, and they have much bigger goals now, especially after this great start.
“I think we’re all pretty upset last year that we didn’t make it, and we’re using that as fuel to get it done this year,” said senior post Jaime Berg.
“We’ve been to state twice since I’ve coached and we have yet to win a game at state,” said head coach Jami Grende. “So I feel like this is the group who could go far this year, because they are hard workers, we’re deep, we’re experienced and they have great chemistry with each other.”
The Vals take on conference foe Thompson Falls Thursday. Then they travel to undefeated Florence on Saturday to face the team that ended their season at divisionals a year ago.
