GREAT FALLS -- After a successful season wrapped up on Saturday, the University of Providence men's wrestling team announced their first signing of the 2020-21 class.
Dougie Swanson of Missoula Big Sky signed with the Argos Tuesday morning.
"We are excited to announce Dougie Swanson as our first signee for the class of 2020-21," head coach Steve Komac said. "Dougie is a three-time Montana state placer and was recently runner-up at the state high school tournament this past season. He is a great competitor that brings a very good skill set to work with."
Swanson is currently a senior at Big Sky High School, where he wrestled, played football and ran track. In his high school wrestling career, he has placed at the Montana State AA three times, including a runner-up finish a month ago. This past season he went 38-4, and was named Big Sky's Most Outstanding Wrestler, given the Hardest Worker Award, the Coaches Award and recorded the most falls on his team.
"He has been a very dedicated student-athlete for coach Rick Moreno and Big Sky High School," Komac said. "Coach Moreno does a great job with his wrestlers and we believe these skills will adapt well into college wrestling. Dougie also has many family ties to Great Falls living here for several years prior to moving to Missoula. We're excited to welcome him to the Argo family."
