The Laurel Locomotives launched from No. 9 to No. 2 in the latest Class A wrestling poll, sitting behind only reigning state champion and heavy favorite Sidney in the team polls.
The Eagles defeated the Locomotives in the championship round of the Class A duals in Lewistown over the weekend, earning a dominant 57-9 victory for the title. But Laurel had an impressive weekend, topping Browning, Corvallis and Livingston to advance to the championship dual
Laurel didn't land any individual wrestlers atop the 13 weight classes, though Cameron Younger is No. 2 at 182 pounds and Keagan Campbell sits third at 138 pounds. Teammate Keagan Thompson is fourth at 145, Donald Maurer fifth at 182, while Cole Younger and Ivan Lee each sit No. 6 in their weight classes -- Younger at 160 pounds, Lee at 113.
Gabe Hernandez is also ranked No. 6 in the heavyweight division of 285 pounds.
Sidney still leads the charge with six No. 1-ranked wrestlers, while Frenchtown has two. Dillon, Havre, Lewistown, Livingston and Miles City each have one individual ranked first.
The Class A divisional wrestling tournaments will be held on Feb. 8, with the Western A at Ronan High School and the Eastern A back in Lewistown at Fergus High. The state tournaments will be held at First Interstate Arena at MetraPark on Feb. 14-15.
