BILLINGS — It was a historic day on the wrestling mats in Billings as Montana held its first-ever girls-only AAU tournament.

Three different team divisions of 250 girls wrestled at Senior High Saturday. That's a jump of 100 competitors from last year's mixed-gender folkstyle event.

The Dillon Wrestling Club took the small-group title, Legends of Gold from Bozeman won the medium bracket, and the Poplar Wrestling Club won the large team trophy.

Girls wrestling was recently approved as the newest Montana High School Association-sanctioned sport, which will begin in the 2020-21 school year with its own state tournament.
