GREAT FALLS -- The University of Providence track and field team announced the signing of Shane Girres Thursday afternoon.
Girres, who is finishing his senior semester at Great Falls Central Catholic School, had a successful high school career in multiple sports. As a junior last spring, Girres placed third in the Class C 110-meter high hurdles, clocking a personal-best time of 15.72 at the State C meet in Laurel. He also placed in the top 10 in the Class C long jump competition.
Along with placing in state track, he was named an all-state quarterback his senior season, while also garnering first-team all-conference honors as a quarterback and second-team all-conference accolades as a safety. He was also the captain for both the basketball and football team. Academically, he maintained a 3.4 GPA.
"Shane is a great all-around talent," head coach Tony Arntson said. "He has a great work ethic and leadership skills. He will be a tremendous addition to the Argo family."
