BOZEMAN — The Bozeman Hawks have been a force to reckon with all season on the Class AA boys soccer pitch, and Friday night was no different, as the Hawks cruised their way to the State AA semifinals with a 5-2 victory over the Helena High Bengals.
Bozeman's Carter Evans got the night started early for the Hawks. Off a corner kick in the sixth minute, Will Kaiser dribbled the ball toward the goal where Evans was standing by. Kaiser slid into the kick and Evans punched it in from close range for a 1-0 lead.
That score held for about three minutes until Helena's Travis Robertson sank in a goal for the equalizer.
With Helena doubling down on Hawks star Drew Johnson, the second-leading scorer in AA with 23 goals, Bozeman focused on spreading the ball. That presented scoring opportunities for three Hawks players in the first period: Joshua Angell, Nolan Robin and Andrew Barkholz.
With a 4-1 lead heading into the half, Bozeman never looked back.
The Bozeman Hawks will host the State AA semifinals next week, which are scheduled to kick off Oct. 20.
