BOZEMAN -- After a third-place finish at last year's Class A state volleyball tournament, Corvallis guaranteed itself a better finish at the 2019 tournament.
The Blue Devils earned a 25-20, 25-16, 14-25, 23-25, 15-9 win over two-time reigning champion Billings Central in Friday's undefeated semifinal match at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The win advances Corvallis to the championship match, which is scheduled for noon Saturday.
Isabel Evans recorded a team-high 16 kills and two blocks and Hannah Martin and Madeline Gilder each added three aces for Corvallis. Martin also had 40 assists in the win.
Olivia Moten-Schell had 21 kills, three aces and 16 digs for Central, which now falls to the third-place match. The Rams will meet either Havre or Glendive at 10 a.m. Saturday with the winner advancing to play Corvallis in the championship.
Glendive def. Havre 25-22, 25-9, 25-21 (Havre gets fourth place)
Glendive is set to get a trophy at the Class A state volleyball tournament after sweeping Havre 25-22, 25-9, 25-21 in the fourth-place match Friday.
Meadow Torres filled the stat sheet for the Red Devils, recording 21 kills, two aces and 11 digs. Karsen Murphy added 13 kills, 24 assists and one block for Glendive, which will meet Billings Central in the third-place match at 10 a.m. Saturday. The winner of that match will play Corvallis in the championship.
Jessa Chvilichek had four kills, three blocks and one ace for Havre, which saw its season end with the loss.
Havre def. Columbia Falls 25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-10
Havre lost two of the first three sets in its loser-out match against Columbia Falls, but the Blue Ponies rallied for a 25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-10 win over the Wildkats on Friday at the Class A state volleyball tournament at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Jessa Chvilichek paced the Blue Ponies with 12 kills, 2.5 blocks and two aces. Peyton Brown added 24 assists and 24 digs, and Sam Oliver had 10 assists and 32 digs. Havre will meet Glendive in the fourth-place match at 8 p.m. Friday.
Kiera Brown had 15 kills and four blocks for Columbia Falls, which sees its season end with the loss.
Glendive def. Hardin 23-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-15
Karsen Murphy had 18 kills, 24 assists and eight blocks to help Glendive extend its season at the Class A state volleyball tournament Friday at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The Red Devils earned a 23-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 loser-out win over Eastern A foe Hardin.
Glendive also got 33 digs, two blocks and two aces from Meadow Torres. The Red Devils will next play Columbia Falls or Havre in the fourth-place match Friday at 8 p.m.
Hardin's season comes to a close with the loss. Nicole Green had nine kills, three aces and 10 digs for the Bulldogs. Natalie Edgar added six kills, 16 assists and two blocks.
Havre def. Butte Central 25-11, 25-17, 25-21
Senior Sam Oliver had 10 digs, eight kills and three assists as Havre High kept its season alive on Friday afternoon, defeating Butte Central in straight sets at the Class A state volleyball tournament at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The Blue Ponies defeated the Maroons 25-11, 25-17, 25-21 in a loser-out contest.
Oliver was joined by Jessa Chvilicek with eight kills, while Peyton Brown had 11 assists for the Blue Ponies, who will face Columbia Falls in another elimination game at 4 p.m.
Butte Central got 15 digs and 13 assists from Maci Reopelle, while Cassidy Strizic added nine kills and two aces in the loss.
Hardin def. Polson 25-13, 26-24, 25-22
Alyssa Pretty Weasel and Jonna Lind combined for 30 kills and 2.5 blocks as Hardin swept past Polson in Friday morning loser-out action at the Class A state volleyball tournament in Bozeman. The Bulldogs defeated the Pirates 25-13, 26-24, 25-22 to advance in the consolation bracket.
Pretty Weasel had 16 kills and 1.5 blocks, while Lind added 14 and one, respectively, to go with a team-high 13 digs to lead the Bulldogs at the net. Natalie Edgar doled out 32 assists, all but one of Hardin's total, and Nicole Green served up a whopping six aces.
Hardin faces Eastern A foe Glendive in a 2 p.m. loser-out contest at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Polson had impressive defensive performances from Ara Mercer and Maggie Todd, who finished with 24 and 22 digs, respectively. Todd added four aces, while Grace Quinones had a team-high 11 kills in the loss. Todd added 10 kills for the Pirates.
Havre swept Butte Central in the second loser-out contest on Friday, as the Blue Ponies advance to meet Columbia Falls at 4 p.m.
