DILLON — (Editor's Note: Full highlights from today's action can be found in the videos above.)
From 10 a.m. Thursday morning to a little past 9:15 p.m., the eight best volleyball teams in the Western A converged in Dillon for the opening round of the divisional tournament.
The first match of the day was the Polson Pirates against the host Dillon Beavers. Dillon jumped out to a 2-1 lead and had all the momentum on its side. However, something sparked Polson to rally back and force a fifth set. There the Pirates and Beavers battled it out point-for-point until Polson pulled away and took the set 16-14 and the match to advance to the next round.
Libby and Corvallis was the next game up, and it was far less suspenseful. Corvallis dominated from start to finish on its way to a 3-0 sweep of the Loggers.
Whitefish and Butte Central was also another three-set sweep courtesy Butte Central. They would play the winner of Columbia Falls and Stevensville. The Wildkats punched their ticket to the quarterfinals with a sweep.
In the quarterfinals, Polson was no match for Corvallis. The Blue Devils swept again and clinched their spot in Friday's semifinal. Butte Central and Columbia Falls battled to meet Corvallis in that game, and the Wildkats swept the Maroons and set up their showdown with Corvallis Friday.
