The defending Class AA state champion Helena Capital Bruins topped the initial volleyball coaches' poll, which was released Monday.
The Bruins received all 10 first-place votes after winning last weekend's Great Falls Invite, which featured all 15 Class AA teams in addition to Class A Havre. Capital didn't lose a set in Friday's pool play, and then defeated MIssoula Sentinel, Kalispell Glacier and Billings West in bracket play on Saturday.
Capital (8-0 overall, 2-0 Western AA) returns to the court Tuesday for a conference match at Missoula Sentinel (2-3, 2-0).
Chasing the Bruins in the coaches' poll are Billings West, Helena High, Great Falls CMR and Great Falls High. The second-ranked Golden Bears placed second at the Great Falls Invite and are 8-4 on the season.
The results of the weekly Class AA Montana volleyball coaches' poll are below. The ratings are based upon five points for each first-place vote, four points for each second-place vote, etc. First-places votes as of Sept. 16 are in parentheses, followed by the total points.
