BELGRADE -- The Jefferson Panthers upset Manhattan 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21,15-12) in the quarterfinals of the District 5B tournament at Belgrade High School to advance to the undefeated semifinal. The Panthers will play Townsend to try to earn their spot in the district title game.
Jefferson made quick work of Big Timber in the opening round, sweeping the Herders 3-0.
In the other first round game, after dropping a tough first set to Whitehall 28-26, Three Forks bounced back to win the next three to to advance to the quarterfinals, beating the Trojans 3-1 (26-28, 25-14, 25-18, 25-18).
The Wolves met Townsend in the next round, where the Bulldogs pulled off the 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-19, 25-10). Townsend will now meet Jefferson in the undefeated semifinals Friday at 11:00 a.m. and the winner advances to the championship later in the day at 3:30 p.m.
