BUTTE — Columbia Falls held on against Browning and Ronan pulled away from Hamilton to win Western A girls basketball semifinal games at the Maroon Activities Center on Friday. The Wildkats and Maidens clinched berths at the Class A state tournament with wins and will meet each other in the Western A championship at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Columbia Falls 45, Browning 42
At the end of the third quarter, the Browning found itself down 34-24. However, the Indians would give Columbia Falls a run for its money in the fourth, outscoring the Wildkats 18-11 to make it a three-point game. Columbia Falls, though, held on for the 45-42 win and advances to the championship.
Wildkats senior Hannah Schweikert had a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds.
Browning senior Tatum Running Crane had a team-high 12 points.
The Wildkats play in the championship game Saturday at 8 p.m.
Ronan 54, Hamilton 32
Ronan jumped out to a 12-10 first-quarter lead, and Hamilton could never get any closer in this one as the Maidens rolled 54-32.
Maidens junior Danielle Coffman had a game-high 12 points.
Broncs senior Katelyn Dickemore had a team-high 10 points.
Ronan heads to the championship to take on an undefeated Columbia Falls team.
