BILLINGS - A pair of annual high school all-star basketball tournaments set to tip off next week in Billings have been canceled.
As a precaution to the coronavirus pandemic, the Treasure State Classic high school girls tournament and the Billings Hotel Senior Classic for boys are being shelved until next year, according to Darryl Helmer who organizes the girls event. Both tournaments were set to start on March 19.
Montana State Billings has played host to the Treasure State Classic while Billings Senior has hosted games for the Billings Hotel Classic.
Helmer said this is the first time in the tournament’s 24-year girls history that it will not be played. Last year's drew an estimated 160 players from Montana and Wyoming.
Both tourneys are a combination of statewide Class AA, Class A, Class B and Class C teams that criss-cross brackets facing each other, no matter the classification. Only graduating seniors are eligible to play.
