CHURCHILL -- The Manhattan Christian basketball teams swept West Yellowstone in a big District 11C at the Memorial Events Center on Thursday night.
Coming into the girls game, the Wolverines were a perfect 9-0, leading the district standings with a 4-0 record. A win would bump the Eagles, who were 3-0 in conference play, above West Yellowstone in the district standings. Led by Eliana Kuperus' game-high 18 points and ten10 rebounds, the Eagles handed the Wolverines their first loss of the year, 49-39.
MCHS sophomore Kiersten Van Kirk also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
Ashlynn Roos led West Yellowstone with a 10-point effort while pulling down eight rebounds.
Manhattan Christian moves to 9-2 overall (4-1 District 11C) on the season and now tops the district standings. West Yellowstone drops to 9-1 (4-1 District 11C) and moves into second.
After losing their first game in 35 games last week to Three Forks, the Manhattan Christian boys got back to their winning ways defeating the Wolverines 93-35. Eagles senior Sam Leep scored a game-high 22 points. He also added four assists and four steals. Josiah Amunrud added 17 points in the win.
West Yellowstone was led by German Vazquez who scored 11 points.
MCHS improves to 9-1 overall (5-0 District 11C) this year and not only remains the top team in their district, but one of the best in the state. West Yellowstone drops to 8-3 (5-2 District 11C).
