LAUREL -- Staring down the upcoming divisional basketball tournament, Laurel's girls picked up a strong win Thursday night at home 54-38 over Hardin.
After falling by eight at Hardin in the season's first meeting, the Locomotives jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never trailed on their way to a 9-3 record. Hardin slips to 8-3.
Freshman Emma Timm led everybody in scoring with 17 points -- 12 in the first quarter -- helping Laurel explode to an 18-5 lead after one. Alyse Aby scored 11 for the Locomotives followed by Morgan Maack with 10.
Trailing 29-14 at half, Hardin scored a quick six points in less than 30 seconds to open the third quarter, but Maack connected on a pair of fast-break layups to regain the cushion for Laurel.
Nevaeh Alden and Alyssa Pretty Weasel led the Bulldogs with seven apiece. Dierra Takes Enemy and Kamber Good Luck each scored six.
