HELENA -- The Helena High girls basketball team was in unfamiliar territory heading into its Jan. 16 game with the Missoula Big Sky Eagles. The Bengals came into the game 1-2 in conference play, a mark they hadn't seen since the 2014-15 season. A win over the Eagles would move them back to .500 through conference play, though, and the Bengals delivered, downing Big Sky 65-24.

The Bengals got off to a hot start knocking down three 3-pointers to jump to an early lead and didn't look back. The Bengals were led in scoring by McKayla Kloker with 17 points. Liz Heuiser and Caroline Bullock scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bengals in the win.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Corbyn Sandau with 16 points.

The Bengals will get a weeklong reprieve to prepare for their matchup with crosstown rival Helena Capital on Jan. 23. The Eagles will do much of the same when they play the Missoula Sentinel Spartans on Jan. 24.
