BUTTE — The Bartsch twins each scored in double figures as the Helena Capital girls basketball team rolled to a 44-27 Western AA win over Butte High on Thursday at Ross J. Richardson Memorial Gym.
The win moves the defending Class AA co-champion Bruins to 6-1 and keeps them one game behind conference-leading Missoula Hellgate. Butte (1-6) is still searching for its second win of the season after its opening win against Missoula Big Sky.
Paige Bartsch led the way with 14 points while Dani Bartsch added 12. They were the only players to score in double figures.
The Bruins' defense clamped down on Butte, which was led by 5 points from Pieper Joseph.
BUTTE CENTRAL 53, ANACONDA 48
Over at the Maroon Activities Center, the Butte Central girls rolled their record to 8-1 with a non-conference victory over the Copperheads.
Delaney Hasquet scored a team-high 14 points and Amira Bolton and Sofee Thatcher each had 11 as the Maroons overcame an 18-16 halftime deficit.
The Copperheads, which have dropped three straight games after opening the season at 5-0, were led by a game-high 19 points from Mia Sullivan Sanders and 11 from Makena Patrick.
