BILLINGS -- The Great Falls High and Great Falls CMR girls basketball teams picked up Eastern AA wins in Billings on Saturday afternoon, as the Bison beat Billings Skyview 27-25 and the Rustlers beat Billings Senior 52-48.
Billings Skyview built a 10-7 lead late in the second quarter, but Great Falls High scored the final seven points of the first half to grab a 14-10 lead. That lead grew to 19-10 before Skyview made it 19-18 entering the final quarter.
Skyview led 22-19 with under six minutes to play, but Great Falls High would battle back and eventually lead 24-22. A Jorgie Hawthorne bucket and defensive stop at the buzzer preserved the 27-25 win for the Bison.
Great Falls CMR had to made a comeback on Billings Senior to escape. The Rustlers trailed 40-33 early in the fourth quarter, but CMR rallied to eventually take a 46-45 lead with less than three minutes to play. The CMR defense locked Senior down in the final quarter, and the Rustlers were able to ice the game from the foul line in the final minute.
