GREAT FALLS -- The Great Falls CMR girls basketball team completed the crosstown sweep over its rival, downing Great Falls High 53-42 Tuesday night at Swarthout Fieldhouse.

After the Rustlers took the first meeting in the rivalry 38-25, the team knew Great Falls High would come out with more fire in Round 2.

"It took a lot of effort and we just had to keep grinding and keep pushing,” said senior guard Kiely Gunderson. “We knew they were going to come out a lot tougher this game because of how we played them last game, so I knew they wanted it. We just had to want it more"

Gunderson led all scorers with 16 points, Allie Olsen had 10, Chloe Pace had nine and Lauren Lindseth eight to lead the Rustlers.

Jorgie Hawthorne led the Bison with 10 points, Ryen Palmer and Alison Harris both scored nine.

The Rustlers firmly take second place in the Eastern AA with an 8-6 overall mark and a 6-2 conference record. Great Falls High falls to 8-6 overall and 4-4 in the East.

“This win is huge,” said Gunderson. “Last year we never beat them, so it’s meant a lot to finally beat them and pull through.”
