BILLINGS -- It likely wasn't the finish a lot of fans saw coming, but that's what made it so special for Billings Senior's basketball girls.

The Broncs used a gritty performance Saturday afternoon at home to knock off previously unbeaten co-State AA champion Billings West 43-42. Allie Cummings hit the go-ahead free throw with under a minute to play and Senior survived multiple West shot attempts to hold off the Bears.
The Broncs led much of Saturday's first half, including 15-11 after one. West's Kendall Ellis tied it at 23 on a baseline jumper just before the halftime buzzer. West jumped on top 39-33 after three quarters but only netted three points the rest of the game.
Senior (6-5) closes the regular season next week with a make-up game at Great Falls High Tuesday, home against Bozeman High on Friday and at Bozeman Gallatin Saturday.
West (11-1) is at Great Falls CMR next Thursday and hosts Great Falls High in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
