BELGRADE - Last year, the Twin Bridges boys basketball team entered the Western C divisional tournament undefeated but missed out on a trip to state. This year, the Falcons are facing the same possibility unless they can win a challenge game this time.
The Falcons ran into two powerhouses at the Western C in 2019, falling to eventual state champion Manhattan Christian in the opening round and then losing a 52-51 heartbreaker to Arlee, the eventual State C runner-up, in a challenge game.
Friday, Twin Bridges met the same fate, losing its first game of the season to Manhattan Christian, forcing the Falcons to win twice Saturday and hope the Eagles could beat Gardiner in the Western C title game to have an opportunity to challenge, all of which happened.
So, Twin Bridges has one more shot Monday at a state berth two years in the making. The Falcons and Bruins tip off at 6:30 p.m. in Belgrade.
Three other divisional challenge games highlight a busy Monday across Montana. Manhattan Christian's girls will attempt to join the boys in the State C field, as the Eagles take on West Yellowstone in Ennis at 6:30 p.m.
In the Eastern C, Froid-Medicine Lake's girls battled back to take third and will challenge Westby-Grenora for the division's final state tournament berth. That game is in Plentywood at 6 p.m.
Finally, the Belt and Big Sandy boys will meet at 5:30 p.m. in Great Falls to decide the Northern C's second seed.
