HELENA -- On a night that appeared promising for the Bengals up front, the Missoula Big Sky Eagles dashed their dreams, downing Helena High 48-36 in boys basketball action on Thursday.

The contest opened with dueling 3-pointers from both teams, but the Eagles quickly rushed out in front and led 14-8 after the first quarter. The Bengals went ice cold from the field in the second and third quarters, knocking down just three of their shots, while the Eagles continued to pile on to make it 35-21 through three quarters of play.

Kade Olson led the way for the Eagles with 10 points on the night. Kaden Huot led the Bengals with 11, but no other Bengals player was able to tally more than five points on the night.

In the fourth, Huot scored eight of his 11 points as the Bengals tried to claw their way back into the game, but the Eagles' lead was too much as they managed to stay ahead.

The Helena High girls were slated to take on Big Sky in Missoula on Thursday, but Helena Public Schools activities director Tim McMahon confirmed due to contact tracing protocols inside the Bengals program the game was postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

The Bengals girls will now be sidelined until late January and their next matchup on Jan. 22 against Helena Capital will also need to be rescheduled. The rescheduled dates have not yet been confirmed.
