CHURCHILL — It was a great Friday night for District 12C basketball, as the undefeated Manhattan Christian boys took on undefeated Twin Bridges for sole possession of first place. The Falcons girls looked to upset the undefeated Eagles.
In the boys game, the game was close to start until the end of the first quarter when Manhattan Christian went on a 9-3 run to take a 20-11 lead. Twin Bridges was never able to recover after the Eagles took a double-digit lead early in the second quarter, and the Eagles never broke a sweat after the close start, winning 60-4`1 to take over first place in District 12C.
Eagles sophomore Seth Amunrud and junior Willem Kimm each had a team-high 14 points. Kimm nearly finished with a double-double with eight rebounds. Senior Tate Smith led the Falcons with 14 points.
In the girls game, the Falcons started out red hot, stunning the Eagles with a 7-2 run. However, that would be all the points Twin Bridges would score in the first quarter, as the Eagles went on a 13-2 run to end the quarter. That's all the separation Manhattan Christian would need as it rolled in this one, 55-29. The Eagles move to 11-0 on the season.
Eagles senior Eliana Kuperus had a game-high 14 points as the senior continues to dominate for Manhattan Christian.
Both Manhattan Christian teams take on Sheridan on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
