JEFFERSON — Whitehall made the trip up I-15 North Friday night for a Class B showdown with Jefferson.
The boys game started tonight's festivities, and with about two minutes left to play in regulation it looked like Whitehall had this game secured, boasting a 37-33 lead. But Jefferson had other ideas. Clutch 3-point shooting, turnovers and missed opportunities by the Trojans eventually led to the Panthers leading 40-38 with 25 seconds left to play.
However, the Trojans scored the tying basket with less than 10 seconds to go to force overtime. From there, another back and forth battle ensued until the Panthers finished the job off late, defending their home court with a 50-47 win.
The girls game had some high expectations following the saga that played before it.
Fans got a brief moment to catch their breath, and the first half was all Whitehall. The Trojans pushed the ball in transition and buried a couple big 3s to give themselves an eight-point cushion heading into halftime.
From there Whitehall never looked back on its way to a 56-41 win.
