HELENA -- The Montana Army National Guard and the Montana High School Association released the winter 2019-20 academic all-team awards on Thursday, with Helena Capital leading the charge in all three Class AA sports. Drummond was honored for boys and girls basketball.
The awards are based on MHSA member schools calculating their cumulative grade-point averages, using only students who have participated in the second-quarter activities of boys basketball, girls basketball and wrestling.
The Bruins, which were led this winter by the girls co-champion basketball team, had all three winter programs post GPAs higher than 3.20. The Capital girls averaged an impressive 3.88, while the boys landed at 3.56. The Bruin wrestling squad had an average GPA of 3.216.
Drummond was the only other school to earn multiple honors, with the Trojans' girls basketball team averaging a 3.983 GPA, the highest of any of the winter programs. The Drummond boys finished with an average of 3.798.
Laurel's girls basketball team was close behind Drummond's girls, with the Locomotives averaging a 3.97.
