HELENA — The Helena Capital Bruins poured it on Saturday as they picked up their final win of the boys basketball regular season against crosstown rival Helena High by a score of 43-30.
The Bengals did themselves no favors, getting off to a slow start and needing almost six minutes of the first quarter to get on the board, while the Bruins jumped out to a 10-0 margin in that span.
The Bengals gained a little bit of ground in the second quarter to get the score to 24-12 at the half but got off to an equally slow start in the third quarter and fell further behind 34-17.
Hayden Opitz led the Bruins with 16 points and nine rebounds. Burgin Luker led the Bengals with eight points.
While Helena High outscored the Bruins 13-9 in the fourth quarter, the Bruins' lead was more than enough to keep the Bengals at bay and win 43-30.
With the win, the Bruins secure a home playoff game next Thursday at 5 p.m.
