FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield girls and boys basketball teams each earned wins over Shelby on Friday night.
The Fairfield girls won 55-50, holding back a late push from the Coyotes. Fairfield entered the final frame up by seven, but Shelby cut the deficit to as low as four. The Eagles responded with timely free throws and beating Shelby's full-court press for easy layups.
The Fairfield boys won 71-57. Neither team could establish firm control in the first half, with the Eagles leading by just three at the break. Fairfield pulled away late in the fourth after the Coyotes missed a few key buckets.
