BUTTE — The Butte High basketball teams hosted Belgrade Thursday in a boys and girls doubleheader, making the games Butte's 2019-20 home openers and the Panthers' first games as members of Class AA.
The boys game tipped off first. The Bulldogs took a 35-20 lead heading into halftime behind a barrage of 3-point shooting and never looked back en route a 66-40 win, giving head coach Matt Luedtke his first win as Butte's head coach.
The girls game started a little slower, but a couple 3s, some transition opportunities, and cashing in at the foul line quickly gave Butte a 17-3 lead after the first quarter. From there, the Bulldogs would maintain a double-digit lead throughout most of the game and clinch the sweep with a 53-42 win.
Both Butte teams will take more than a week off before hitting the road for a doubleheader against Great Falls High on Dec. 20.
