BILLINGS — The Billings West boys and girls swept Helena High Saturday afternoon, with the boys completing a 2-0 home weekend while the girls salvaged a tough road trip to the Capital city.
West's boys used a big fourth quarter run to beat the Bengals 63-37. The Bears got out to a double-digit lead in the first half against the Bengals, eventually taking a 27-15 advantage into halftime. Helena stayed close through the third quarter, but West blew it open to begin the fourth.
Coming off a 43-42 last-second loss to Capital Friday night, West's girls broke open a tie game Saturday with a 9-0 fourth quarter run to beat the three-time defending champion Bengals 53-43. West led by as many as 11 in the second quarter after a Willa Albrecht three, but Helena closed the half on a 20-5 run to take a 28-24 advantage into the break.
West scored the first seven points of the third to re-take the lead, and the game stayed close until the Bears' fourth quarter run with under 5:00 to play.
The Helena Capital's girls meanwhile completed a weekend sweep with a 45-31 over Billings Senior Saturday. Capital's boys avoided a sweep with a come-from-behind 65-63 win over the Broncs in Billings.
