BILLINGS — The Billings West and Billings Senior boys basketball teams earned a home sweep of the Helena schools Friday night.
The Bears raced out to a 27-11 lead on Helena Capital early in the second quarter and held off the Bruins in a 57-46 win. West shot the ball extremely well early to get to its biggest lead at 16. Capital closed the gap to six with a 12-2 run near the end of the first half, but West scored the final seven points of the half to to take a 35-22 lead into the break.
Capital got within five in the third quarter but couldn't get any closer in the fourth as West pulled away late.
Billings Senior and Helena High played a low-scoring first half as the Broncs led just 21-16 at the break. Senior extended the lead to 36-24 after the third quarter, and the Bengals were never able to threaten the Broncs in the fourth.
Both Senior and West move to 2-1 on the season with wins. The teams swap opponents Saturday, with 2 p.m. start times in Billings.
