GREAT FALLS – The Providence women’s basketball program will add Power High School’s Jessica Maruska to their 2019-20 roster, head coach Bill Himmelberg announced on Tuesday.
Maruska, a native of Power, will join the Argos following her career at Power High School as a three-sport athlete, competing in basketball, volleyball, and track and field.
Maruska was a four-year letter-winner in basketball, racking up 1,409 points (16.3 per game), 394 rebounds, 362 steals, and 319 assists throughout her career as a Pirate. She served as a team captain from her sophomore year through her senior season, in addition to earning first-team all-conference and MVP recognition all four years at Power. She led the Pirates in scoring, assists and rebounds during her junior and senior seasons, while also earning offensive MVP honors.
“I feel that (my skillset) will fit well into the Argos’ program and am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to be able to play basketball at the next level,” said Maruska. “In addition to the basketball program, the University of Providence will provide me with a great education within areas of study that are of huge interest to me.”
Off the hardwood, Maruska was a three-year letter-winner, two-time divisional qualifier, and one-time state qualifier in track and field, making her state qualification during her junior season. She was also a four-year letter-winner in volleyball, earning second team all-conference honors her senior season.
Academically, Maruska was named to the honor roll during 14 out of 16 quarters while at Power, in addition to being a member of the Power Honor Society.
“Really excited to have Jessie join us,” said Himmelberg. “Jessie works really hard and has a great basketball IQ. She will fit in well with our team.”
