WHITEFISH — The University of Providence swept the Frontier Conference basketball player of the week awards on Monday.
Emilee Maldonado was named the women’s player of the week, ending Brianna King’s streak of six consecutive awards. King, a senior at Montana Western, was the league’s preseason player of the year.
Maldonado, a 5-foot-5 sophomore guard from Sunnyside, Wash., helped Providence to back-to-back upsets of nationally ranked teams last week. The 22nd-ranked Argos defeated No. 21 Rocky Mountain College, 64-60, and No. 8 Carroll College, 56-53.
Maldonado averaged 24.5 points per game in the two wins, making 17 of 38 field goals and 12 of 13 free throws. She added 3.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, and scored a career-high 31 points in the win over Rocky.
Austin Starr, a 6-7 senior guard from Las Vegas, won the men’s award for the Argos.
No. 25 Providence notched wins conference wins over No. 2 Carroll College, 78-77, and No. 22 Rocky Mountain College, 86-74.
Starr averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game during the wins. He was 10 of 21 from the floor and 7 of 8 from the free throw line.
