GREAT FALLS – The No. 22 ranked University of Providence Argos used a big second quarter on their way to a 64-60 win over the No. 22 ranked Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears Saturday night.

The Bears (16-8, 7-5 FC) were unable to find any answers for Providence’s (16-8, 5-7 FC) Emilee Maldonado who scored 31 points with six assists. Never able to grab a lead larger than three points, Rocky trailed for the majority of the second period. The Battlin’ Bears surged late and tied the game at 58-58, but Maldonado sealed the game away with four critical free throws in the final minute.

Three Battlin’ Bears scored in the double digits. Alecia Chamberlin scored thirteen points while Antuanisha Wright and Markaela Francis posted 12 point performances. Francis led the team in boards with seven.

The Argos won the rebound battle with 37 boards to Rocky’s 26.

The Battlin’ Bears finished the night shooting for 45.3 percent from the field. In comparison, the Argos drained 43.1 percent.

Rocky will next travel to Lewiston, Idaho to play the Lewis-Clark Warriors on Feb. 7. That contest will begin at 5:30 p.m.
