Montana Tech’s Taylor England, University of Providence’s Emilee Maldonado named players of the week

WHITEFISH — Athletes from Montana Tech and the University of Providence were named Frontier Conference basketball players of the week on Monday.

Taylor England, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward from Helena, was named the league’s men’s player of the week after averaging 20 points, five rebounds, 3.5 steals and one block per game. Montana Tech defeated Willamette University 77-66, then lost a 103-51 exhibition game at Oregon State. England had 36 points, nine rebounds and seven steals against Willamette.

Emilee Maldonado, a 5-5 sophomore guard for the University of Providence, was named the women’s player of the week after averaging 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in a sweep at the Adidas-Northwest Classic. The Argos defeated Northwest Christian (Ore.) 85-83, with Maldonado scoring 28 points and dishing eight assists. She scored the game-winning basket with 2.6 seconds remaining in the game.

UP also topped Northwest University (Wash.) 70-49. Maldonado had nine points and seven assists.
