Providence Argos’ soccer squads swept by Corban Warriors

SALEM, Ore. – The University of Providence men’s soccer team fell to the Corban Warriors, 1-0, on Saturday evening.

The Argos started out slow in the opening period as they only garnered one shot from George Holloway that was saved. However, Marc Girones put in work as the Warriors took 11 shots during the period to garner four saves.

The Warriors pulled ahead at the start of the second period as Corban’s Kohl Hurtado headed in a ball that was saved from a free kick. The Argos tried to tie things up as they outscored the Warriors 6-3 to close out the match, but they just couldn’t get anything to fall as the Warriors took the match.

The Argos led the Warriors in corners during the second half, 3-2, but both teams committed six shots and garnered two saves in the final 45 minutes.

The Argo women’s soccer team (4-3, 2-1) suffered its first Cascade Conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Corban Warriors dealt the Argos a 1-0 defeat.

Both teams came out equally match in the opening period as both made eight shots, but the Warriors were just slightly more efficient with their shots as Corban netted their eighth shot of the period in the 39th minute to put the Warriors up, 0-1, heading into the break.

The Argos kicked things into gear in the final 45 minutes as they outshot the Warriors, 14-7. Junior Eme McLaughlin and senior Sydney Knieriem both had a shot on goal. The Argos also led in saves during the contest, 5-2.
