Rocky Mountain College women fall late to Drovers

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears finished the 2018 Phoenix Frontier Classic with a 59-56 loss to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers.

The Bears kept pace with the Drovers through the first period, but the Drovers were able to build an eight point lead heading into the half. A 10 point run late in the fourth allowed the Battlin’ Bears to draw it close in the final minutes, but a few final missed shots gave the Drovers the 59-56 victory.

Marissa Van Atta’s posted 14 points to lead the Battlin’ Bears. Alecia Chamberlin contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Brooke Jones scored 11 points with seven rebounds.

The Battlin’ Bears struggled from beyond the arc, shooting a mere 15.4 percent. Overall, the two teams shot fairly evenly. Rocky posted a 38.2 field goal percentage in comparison to the Drovers who shot 39.3.

The Drovers were led by Reyna Ammons who posted 17 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

Rocky will return to home to Montana to host Montana Western, Dickinson State, and The King’s University as part of the Green and Gold Classic. Rocky will play The King’s University on Dec. 28 and Dickinson State on Dec. 29. Both games will start at 5:30 p.m.
