BILLINGS — Rocky Mountain College hung up 43 unanswered points to defeat Montana Western 43-14 on Saturday afternoon in Frontier Conference football action.
After Jon Jund opened the scoring for Western with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Walker McKitrick, the Bulldogs’ offense went quiet and Rocky’s started to click. Quarterback Jacob Bakken tossed the first of his three touchdown passes to Max Gray from 13 yards out, but the extra point left Rocky trailing 7-6.
Bakken opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Darneail Jenkins. Bakken then ran for a 3-yard score and threw a 29-yard touchdown to Lucas Overton, pushing Rocky’s lead to 30-7 at halftime.
On Rocky’s opening possession of the second half, Mason Melby plunged into the end zone from 1 yard out. Rocky capped its scoring in the fourth quarter with a blocked punt by Billy Williams. Williams nearly took the ball right off the punter’s foot and returned it for a touchdown, putting the Bears up 43-7.
Rocky improves to 7-2 (6-2 Frontier Conference) with the win, while Montana Western falls to 6-2 (6-2). Rocky will travel to La Grande, Ore., next week to take on Eastern Oregon. Montana Western will host red-hot College of Idaho.
