DES MOINES, Iowa – The No. 7-ranked Rocky Mountain College volleyball team lost their first matches since the first day of the season Saturday to two top five opponents, No. 5 Viterbo and No. 2 Grand View as part of the 2018 Grand View Tournament.

The losses end Rocky’s winning streak at 19 matches.

Viterbo beat Rocky in four sets in the first match of the day, 25-23, 24-26, 27-25, 25-17. Oliva L’Ami led the Battlin’ Bears with 22 kills, while Hailey Copinga contributed an additional 16 kills with 11 digs. Ruby Kallenbach led the team in digs with 24.

Rocky’s second match with undefeated Grand View was even closer. The Vikings (22-0) took the first set 25-22, but Rocky flipped the script and pulled in two 25-22 victories of their own in the second and third set.

Grand View responded with a 25-21 win in the fourth set, and closed out the Bears 15-5 in the fifth.

Copinga had a team high 17 kills and 25 digs, while Daniella Russell knocked down 15 kills of her own.

Rocky returns home still at the top of the Frontier Conference standings. They’ll play Carroll College at the Fortin Education Center Friday at 7:00 p.m.
