Four Rocky Mountain College athletes earn conference player of the week honors

BILLINGS – Four Rocky Mountain College student-athletes earned conference player of the week honors.

Eryn Ellis earned the women’s golfer of the week honor for the Frontier Conference. The senior from Casper, Wyo., shot a 2-under-par 140 at the Battlin’ Bears Invitational. That was enough to earn herself individual medalist honors and once again lead Rocky to a first-place finish for the second consecutive week.

Reece Nilsen earned the men’s golfer of the week honor for the Frontier Conference. The sophomore from Tuscon, Ariz., earned individual medalist honors after shooting a 16-under-par 197 at the Battlin’ Bears Invitational. His second-round score of 62 broke school and conference records as he paved the way for a first-place finish for Rocky.

Jacob Bakken earned the football offensive player of the week honor for the Frontier Conference. The senior quarterback from from Wibaux led the Battlin’ Bears to a 34-21 upset victory over then-No. 2 Southern Oregon. Bakken threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns while adding 51 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Tulio Melo earned the men’s soccer defender of the week honor for the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The senior midfielder from Minas Gerais, Brazil, was a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball. Providing a staunch defensive presence for the Battlin’ Bears, Melo also contributed an assist in the game against Carroll College and the opening goal against Providence.
