BILLINGS – The Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears (10-2, 6-1 CCC) secured their sixth conference win in a row with a 2-0 men’s soccer victory over the Providence Argos (6-5, 5-3 CCC).

Neither team managed to score in the first period, but the Battlin’ Bears quickly pulled ahead in the second half.

Tulio Melo found the back of the net off a ball from Marco Kummerle in the 48th minute.

Pablo Ferreira scored the second and final goal of the night unassisted in the 59th minute.

Rocky out-shot the Argo’s 19-10 with a 6-5 corner kick advantage.

Rocky’s Kristofer Wennin pulled in three saves with no goals allowed. Providence’s Marc Girones allowed two goals on nine saves.

Rocky will host Corban on Friday, Oct. 12 at Wendy’s Field. The game will start at 3:30 p.m.

The Rocky women (5-5-1, 1-4-1 CCC) took down their first conference opponent on the season against the Argos in a 3-1 victory.

Rocky had a strong start to the season going 4-1 in non-conference play. However, against conference opponents the Battlin’ Bears faltered with four losses and a tie before today.

Rocky and Providence kept it even in a tightly contested scoreless first period. Amber Pearson broke the Battlin’ Bears loose with an unassisted score in the 50th minute.

Lauryn Gamache would pick up her eighth goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 78th minute.

Sami Heimer would put the Battlin’ Bears up by three with a header into the net off a Gamache kick in the 83rd minute.

Providence’s Crystal Martinez would score soon after with the Argo’s only goal in the 85th minute, but it would prove not enough.

Rocky’s offense dictated the pace of play as they out-shot the Argos 23-9 with a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Rocky’s goalkeeper Maia Wetzel secured four saves with one goal allowed. Providence’s goalkeeper Dakota Nuemann allowed three goals on six saves.

Rocky will host Corban on Friday at Wendy’s Field. That action will start at 1 p.m.
