BILLINGS — The Montana Western women’s basketball team pushed its unbeaten record to 10-0 on Saturday, as the Bulldogs beat Dickinson State, 103-56, at the Hampton Inn Green and Gold Classic on the campus of Rocky Mountain College.
Western jumped out of the gates, scoring 34 points in the opening quarter. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 20 at halftime, leading 57-37. Western shot 68.8 percent in the opening half, including 9-for-15 from 3-point range.
A big reason that Western was able to build a big lead quickly was its ability to force turnovers. The Bulldogs forced 25 turnovers by the Blue Hawks, which led to 48 points for Western.
The Bulldogs continued their dominance in the second half and put the clamps down defensively. Dickinson State scored only 19 points in the second half and just five in the fourth quarter.
Western’s Brianna King led all scorers with 26 points, but she was just one of five Bulldogs in double figures. Cierra Lamey had 17, Paige Holmes had 14, while Shannon Worster scored 11 off the bench and Tori Anderson added 10. Rojin Karahan led the Blue Hawks with 12 points.
Montana Western will play The King’s University on Saturday afternoon, while Dickinson State (7-8) will face Rocky Mountain College.
