Montana Western’s Jason Ferris named Frontier Conference defensive player of the year

WHITEFISH – Frontier Conference commissioner Kent Paulson announced the 2018 all-conference football teams and Champions of Character Wednesday. Jason Ferris was named Frontier Conference defensive player of the year. Walker McKitrick was named second-team offense and Conlan Smith was named second-team defense.

Ferris, a junior linebacker from Dillon, led the Frontier Conference with 125 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 15 passes defended, three interceptions, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. He is third in the nation in tackles per game, averaging 12.5. He was named second-team all-conference last season.

McKitrick, a junior wide receiver from McAllister, led the Bulldogs with 46 receptions for 893 yards and seven touchdowns. He was ranked 17th in the nation in yards per game and 20th with total receiving yards.

Smith is a senior defensive lineman from Idaho Falls, Idaho. This season he recorded 50 tackles, five tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble. He was second-team all-conference last season.

Senior defensive back Tristen Clark was named the team’s champion of character.
