MESA, Ariz. – Montana Tech’s Sean Benson finished the first day of the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship at Las Sendas Golf Club in a tie in 59th place.
Benson opened his round on the 10th hole with a triple bogey. He had three birdies and a pair of bogeys to finish the first nine holes at 2-over par. Benson shot 5-over on the final nine holes to finish with a 7-over-par 78.
The senior from Billings is two strokes back of the cut. In the field of 157 golfers, the top 37 move on to the final two rounds on Thursday and Friday.
