MSU-Northern escapes Montana Tech’s late push

BUTTE – The Orediggers dropped their second close game to the Montana State Northern this season falling 59-51.

Montana Tech (12-9, 2-8) trailed by two with less than a minute to play, but could not catch the Skylights as they hit all of their free throw attempts down the stretch.

The Orediggers trailed 31-22 after at the break, shooting just 31.8 percent in the half. Tech cut the lead to six by the fourth quarter, but just missed in the end.

Kaylee Zard led the Orediggers with 20 points and just missed the double-double with 9 rebounds. Zard hit 5 of 10 from the field and 10 of 11 from the free throw line.

Dani Urick had 11 points and 4 rebounds.

Peyton Kehr led the Skylights with 15 points, all coming from beyond the arc. Kehr hit 5 of 9 from deep.

The Orediggers are home again on Tuesday when they host Montana Western.
