Montana Tech works off the turkey with a win against Northwest University in Helena

HELENA — The Orediggers soared past the Eagles 85-66 in the Carroll Classic opener.

Tech (7-2) jumped out to a quick lead in the initial minutes when Nick Fitts hit a pair of 3-pointers putting the Orediggers up 17-7 with just under 15 to go in the half.

Fitts hit 4 of 5 from beyond the arc in the first half and the team shot 6 of 11. Tech led 47-22 going into the break.

Northwest tried to chip away at the Tech lead in the second half pulling within 13 but couldn’t get back into the game.

Tech finished the game shooting 54.7 percent from the field.

Blake Dittman led the Orediggers with 15 points and efficient shooting. Dittman shot 4 for 5 from the field and 2 of 3 from three point range. He was also a perfect 5 for 5 from the
line.

Fitts finished with 14 points.

Dylan Pannabecker had 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Helena natives Taylor England and Carson Dummer combined for 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Nick Navarro led the Eagles with 17 points and Ryan Hicks added 15.

Montana Tech finishes the weekend Saturday when they face Salish Kootenai.
