8-man state championship in Butte and pregame smack-talk between Montana Tech teammates

BUTTE – Saturday afternoon, the 8-Man state championship comes to Butte, where Great Falls Central and Drummond-Philipsburg clash to see who takes home that state title.

But there’s another interesting tidbit about this game just up the road at Montana Tech. This game will also settle a friendly “beef” between junior wide receiver Reid Nelson and junior linebacker Danny Mannix. Nelson, a Great Falls Central alum, and Mannix, a Drummond-Phillipsburg alum, will get a chance to watch their alma maters square off for the 8-Man crown. It also has the potential to put an end to all the smack-talk the two have been doing all week long. But being that they are roommates, who knows if the smack talk will ever really stop.

“I think it was maybe Tuesday night we were making dinner, and I think there was a rumor that Coby Manley was maybe out with a foot injury, and Reid said that they were still going to win, so it’d be by about 40 this time, so there’s been a little bit,” said Mannix of the friendly fued.

“I mean, my dad still caches at Great Falls Central, I’ve been talking a little smack to (Mannix) that Central’s going to win by 50, might be a little closer than that, but I think the Mustangs are going to come out on top, for sure,” added Reid Nelson.

“That’s not going to happen,” said Mannix, as the two both broke into laughter.

Kickoff at Naranche Stadium is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
