Montana Tech’s Connor Wines honored after Orediggers’ overtime upset against Southern Oregon

WHITEFISH — Montana Tech’s Connor Wines was named the Frontier Conference defensive player of the week, the league announced on Monday.

Montana Tech upset No. 23 Southern Oregon 38-31 in overtime on Saturday. The Oredigger defense recorded a season-high seven sacks on the day. Wines, a 6-foot-4 senior linebacker, turned in three of the Oredigger sacks, a season high for the Gardiner, Mont. native. Wines also recorded four solo and four assisted tackles. His third sack of the game came late in the fourth quarter and knocked the Raiders out of scoring position.

Montana Tech hosts its final home game of the season on Saturday when Carroll College comes to Butte for Senior Day.

Eastern Oregon receiver Brenden Kelly was named the league’s offensive player of the week after catching seven passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-24 loss at the College of Idaho. The Yotes’ Kyle Mitchell, a junior kicker, captured special teams player of the week with field goals of 37 and 29 yards, as well as going a perfect 6-6 on extra points in COI’s upset over No. 18 EOU.
