BUTTE — Montana Tech head golf coach Lee LaBreche has announced the addition of two golfers for the upcoming season. Isaiah Weldon and Blake Hasquet join the Digger men’s golf teams this fall.

“I’m very excited to sign two new recruits for the Digger men’s program,” said head coach Lee LaBreche.

“Isaiah and Blake competed well at the 2017 AA State Tournament and both come from well coached high school programs.”

Weldon, a Butte native and Butte High graduate, was a four-year varsity golfer for the Bulldogs. Weldon was named all-state twice for finishing in the top 15 at the Class AA state tournament. He finished 15th as a senior and 10th his junior season. Weldon played on the Montana Junior Golf Tour six years.

“Isaiah is a very experienced tournament player. He was a mainstay and past champion of the Southwest Montana Junior Golf Tour competing since he was 12. He will bring a work ethic to the team second to none. He is a great kid and one of the best student-athletes I have recruited. He will definitely be a great addition to the Digger family.”

Weldon was the valedictorian at Butte High and plans on pursuing a degree in Bio Chemistry.

Hasquet comes to the Mining City from Missoula, but has Butte ties. Blake’s uncle, Ron Hasquet, played football for the Orediggers and can be heard on the Oredigger football radio broadcast.

A lifetime golfer, Hasquet played prep at Missoula Sentinel. The four-year varsity golfer finished in the top 20 twice at the Class AA state tournament. Hasquet took 18th as a senior and 17th his junior year.

“Blake has been a strong competitor at Missoula Sentinel the past three years. Blake is one of those all-around athletes that I like for our program. Blake has the ability to come in next year and be an impactful player to our program.”

Hasquet plans on pursuing a degree in Engineering.
