KANSAS CITY, M.O. – The Montana Tech Oredigger volleyball team moved up two spots since the last postseason poll. The Diggers are No. 12 in the National Association of Intercollegiate (NAIA) Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll.

Montana Tech ranked No. 14 in the postseason poll released back in December. The No. 12 ranking is the highest under Head Coach Brian Solomon who is entering his seventh season at Montana Tech.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups. The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. The frequency of polls occurs bi-weekly throughout the season.

The Orediggers (24-10, 10-2) finished the 2017 season with a Frontier Conference title and tournament trophy. At the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux Falls, Iowa, Tech reached the Final 16 bracket for the second straight season.

The 2018 season opens for the Orediggers this weekend at the Spokane Tournament hosted by Spokane Community College. The Orediggers face three Cascade Collegiate Conference schools in No. 15 Eastern Oregon, No. 19 Corban (Ore.) and Multnomah University (Ore.).

Montana Tech hosts schools at the third annual Big Sky Volleyball Challenge in Butte at the Civic Center on August 24-25.
