MSU-Northern men top 25th-ranked University of Providence

HAVRE — The No. 25 Argos dropped an 82-71 road tilt against the Lights on Wednesday following a 46-36 final 20 minutes that lifted MSU-Northern to the win in the Armory. Box score attached, story to follow.

Four Argos (16-8, 7-6 Frontier) score in double-digits with Austin Starr’s 16 leading the way. Jalen Shepard tallied 15, followed by Jack Taylor and Jaxen Hashley who had very similar stat lines with 10 points, while also pulling down seven boards apiece.

Mascio McCadney led the Lights (14-10, 6-6 Frontier) with 23 points, followed by Caulin Bakalarski and Adam Huse with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Kavon Bey tallied a double-double for the Lights with 13 rebounds, while also netting 10 points.

The game remained tied over the first five minutes of play at nine. The Argos led over the next five minutes of play before the Lights tied up the game at 22 at the 9:16-minute mark. However, the Lights controlled the game through the last nine minutes of the period until six-straight points brought the Argos within one at the break, 36-35.

The two squads went back-and-forth through the first 10 minutes of the second period until the Lights took a 55-53 lead following a 52-52 tie. The Lights extended their lead to double digits with a 9-1 run, 64-54. The Argos struggled to overcome the deficit as the Lights would extend their lead to 15 with 2:25 remaining before eventually taking the 82-71 win.
